Ride

Horseback riding is a popular activity, which adds adventure and fun to the trip to Patagonia. Thanks to these animals you can tour mountains, beaches, rivers and pampas, enjoying the landscape and the wind of the area.
It is an activity for the family, since there are no restrictions of weight, physical condition or age. Whoever wants and can handle the reins of the gentle horses, can get on the saddle and enjoy the ride. It is only recommended that very young children be accompanied by someone with experience in the activity, and that the group is always accompanied by one or more guides. It is also good to agree on the price before starting the trip.
The tours last a couple of hours, or you can make excursions in larger areas that last the whole day. For short trips it is not necessary to know how to ride and an explanation of the guide is enough to ride. For longer trips or that cover more complicated terrain, it is recommended to have experience to overcome obstacles and not end up exhausted.
In Patagonia you can ride in Torres del Paine, Chiloé, Coyhaique, Puerto Octay, Puerto Natales, Chile Chico, Punta Arenas and Tierra del Fuego. In all these places there are certain trails, and it is recommended not to leave them to avoid damage to the territory and for someone to get lost.

Torres del Paine
There are established trails, which are also used for hiking and mountain biking. It is recommended to ask about horseback riding in the Park Administration, to know if there are horses available for walking to the place where you are going. Some trails lead to the Cueva del Milodón, while others remain inside the National Park, admiring the beauty of the Towers and the nearby mountains.

Chiloé
In Castro and Quellón, the most important cities of the Island, there are travel agencies that administer the horseback rides in the region. These can be found in the center of the city, along with information on the trails they cover and prices.

Coyhaique
The route between Coyhaique and Puerto Aysén is crossed by road 240, crossing fields and riding along the Simpson River.

Puerto Octay
From Puerto Varas, where you can coordinate a trip in one of the travel agencies of the city, you can visit Puerto Octay, place of beautiful landscapes full of pampas, multicolored grass and natural surprises, such as waterfalls and rivers.

Chile Chico
It is ridden by the shore of Lake Carrera, where rivers, forests, mountains and small towns are discovered by chance in this remote territory. It passes through geographical landmarks such as Lake Bertrand and the Contreras mountain range. There is also a stay that welcomes tourists, with information and food, known as Mallín Colorado.

Punta Arenas
The cavalcades begin in the city, from where the travel agencies coordinate the routes and animals available. The surroundings of the big city can be covered in a few hours, reaching hills that offer a wonderful view of the city and the Strait of Magellan, as well as Tierra del Fuego and the Pacific Ocean, which seems to disappear in the blue of the sky.

Tierra del Fuego
Here, the horse rides are organized in Porvenir, from where you can travel to the Cordón Baquedano, a place of pampas and land, widely used for adventure sports such as trekking and mountain biking, and which allow the arrival of horses as well.
