Chile has over 270 thermal water sources throughout its geography. While in the North, volcanic activity gives life to geyser, in the south the water forms thermal baths, around which rest centers have been formed.
In the south of Chile, in Patagonia, the geographical basin in which the country is located has created about 70 hot springs, ranging from the Llaima volcano in the ninth region, to the Liquiñe-Ofqui in the XI. The thermal baths have different temperatures, while some waters do not exceed 30 ° C, others reach 80.
To bring this natural wonder to the visitor, thermal centers have been created in different parts of the country. In the tenth region there are several, such as the Termas de Coñaripe and Liquiñe, in addition to the Termas de Puyehue. The latter is located near a ski center and offers, in addition to thermal baths, the opportunity to take a mud bath. In the area there are also the El Amarillo, Llancahue, Cahuelmó and Aguas Calientes hot springs.
Further south, on the Carretera Austral, there are the Termas de Puyuhuapi, one of the best thermal centers in the country. It is located in the Ventisquero bosom, 123 km from Coyhaique, in the middle of Patagonia, surrounded by forests and overlooking wonderful mountains.
The waters in Puyuhuapi can reach 80 ° C, temperature impossible for the human body to withstand, so pools have been built and the waters used for therapies and relaxation do not exceed 47 ° C. They are waters full of minerals, such as magnesium, chromium and zinc, which work wonders on the human body.
From the Termas de Puyuhuapi, in addition, you can make excursions to nearby towns, such as the Queulat National Park, where you can go fishing or kayaking, among many other activities.
The other source of thermal waters of Patagonia are the Termas del Amarillo, which are located to the north of Puyuhapi. It is located 30 km from Chaitén and it is reached following a detour demarcated on the Carretera Austral.
The average temperatures of the waters in El Amarillo reach 50 ° C and come from the Michimauida volcano. They are rich in sulfur, used to relieve the discomfort of arthritis and rheumatic fever, among other degenerative diseases.
It is also possible to make excursions from the hot springs, on horseback or on foot, and organize longer trips to nearby attractions.
