The trip to Patagonia is long, and it can be done by air, land or sea. To cover and know more territory, it is recommended to arrive by one road and return to the north by another, if possible.
By Air:
From Santiago, daily flights leave for Puerto Montt, Coihaique and Punta Arenas. In South Patagonia there are also airports in the cities of Chaiton, Futaleufú, Balmaceda, Puerto Williams and Antarctica, although the latter is generally accessed by sea.
By land:
The region is accessed using the Carretera Austral, which connects the rest of the country with the southern zone. The road breaks on reaching Puerto Montt, so it is necessary to go to Argentine territory to continue the journey and cross to the South. For that, there are five authorized steps at the border: Monte Aymond, Casas Viejas, Dorotea, Río Don Guillermo and San Sebastián in Tierra del Fuego.
By sea:
The boats depart from Puerto Montt to Torres del Paine and the islands where tourists are allowed. From here, in addition, you can travel to Hornopiron, Puerto Eden, and Puerto Natales. Another landing point is Puerto Chacabuco, the main one in the region, where the companies that cover South Patagonia connect. Further south, in Puerto Williams, ships and cruises depart for Ultima Esperanza and Antarctica.
